Dooney Rock Sligo
This Lough Gill area is the place that inspired W.B. Yeats to write his poem “The Fiddler of Dooney”. Dooney Rock is located just outside Sligo town and 30 minutes from Ocean Heights B&B.
From The Fiddler of Dooney by W. B Yeats:
“And when the folk there spy me,
They will all come up to me,
With ‘Here is the fiddler of Dooney!’
And dance like a wave of the sea.”
Dooney Rock has a looping nature walking trail, 1.2km in length that leads towards the shore of Lough Gill before taking you to the top of Dooney Rock. From here you can enjoy marvelous views of Lough Gill and it’s Islands.
Along the trail you can view information posts giving details about the local flora and fauna and you can also enjoy a picnic near the car park.
